    In this story, The Wall Street Journal shares with us the tale of Rick Link, a cowboy in Idaho. Link doesn’t make a lot of money managing and working a few ranches, maybe $12,000 a year, but to hear him tell it there is nothing he’d rather be doing.

    Link’s job isn’t to run the financial side of the ranch or make strategic decisions. He merely works the cows on a day-to-day basis. When the herd numbers close to 1,000 head, the job he does is vital to the success of the ranch.

    Being a cowboy is obviously in Link’s blood. Finding people like him to work a ranch is rare. Still, actively seeking out people to work on your ranch who view their work as more than a job not only adds value to your investment but brings peace of mind as well.
