No. 25 Simplot Family
Jack Simplot (1909–2008) quit school and left home in eighth grade. In the 1940s, he pioneered the frozen french fry. At one time the exclusive french fry supplier to McDonald’s, Simplot later expanded his farming and ranching empire to Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. Today, Simplot Land & Livestock ranks as one of the top 10 US ranches for cow-calf production and feedlot capacity. The family farms other crops including corn, wheat, and, of course, potatoes on nearly 83,000 acres primarily in Washington and Idaho.
