No. 37 Lee Family
275,000 acres (NEW TO LIST)
Heirs of Floyd Lee raise cattle and horses in the shadow of Mount Taylor, some 80 miles west of Albuquerque. The rugged terrain comes with a hidden benefit in the form of uranium, first discovered in the early 1950s. Three decades later, Lee began leasing acreage to the Santa Fe Railroad, which developed a highly productive coal mine on the land.
