No. 33. Mike Smith
283,594 acres (down 2,472-acres)
Some things have changed in the Texas Panhandle. Say, for instance, cotton now grows where golden waves of wheat once grew. Some things have not, such as Mike Smith quietly collecting land. In addition to acreage in the Panhandle, the Amarillo-based Smith also owns land between Dallas and Waco as well as in Eastern New Mexico. Smith runs cattle on the majority of his holdings, which are neither cotton nor wheat but grassland.
