No. 13 Ford Family
Kenneth Ford (1908–1997) started out in 1936 with a single sawmill cobbled together with salvaged equipment near Roseburg, Oregon. From a one-room office, he served as head salesman, logger, and on occasion, camp cook in logging camps. He began buying timberlands that had been repossessed for nonpayment of taxes. When the housing boom hit after World War II, Roseburg Forest Products was poised to expand. Vertically integrated, the company manufactures engineered wood products, lumber, plywood, and particleboard. CEO Allyn Ford oversees timberlands in Western Oregon and Northern California along with manufacturing plants nationwide.
