No. 7 Singleton Family
For four centuries, the San Cristobal Ranch has run cattle just south of Santa Fe between the Ortiz Mountains, the Cerrillos Hills, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and the Jemez Mountains. Family patriarch Henry Singleton (1916–1999) bought the old Spanish landmark in 1986. It was the first of numerous ranch purchases by the Teledyne cofounder, who expanded his holdings to 1.1 million acres. Their venerable names are a history lesson: Aqua Verde, Bar Y, Latigo, Conchas, Bigbee/Lobo, Trigg, Bojax, and Dunlap/ Perez. Today, Henry and Caroline Singleton’s five children continue those traditions. In addition to the New Mexico holdings, the Singletons own ranches in California, including the Peachtree and Top Ranches in Salinas Valley and the River Island Ranch in the foothills of the Sierras.
