Who: This flagship brand, which was founded in 1946, had its best year in 2011 with more than $350 million in sales. An exciting aspect of this success was the debut of Hall & Hall’s Auction Division under Partner Scott Shuman.

Where: Hall and Hall is the largest full-service rural real estate firm in the Rocky Mountain West. Its Auction Division covers even more ground, overseeing auctions as far afield as Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.

Why: “When we launched Hall & Hall Auctions, we expected to do one or two in our first year. But after we had our first auction in May, it just exploded. Right now we’re up to 13 and counting,” Shuman says. The white-hot market for production farms and ranches played a part in this strong debut. But Shuman also credits Hall & Hall’s name recognition with a substantial portion of this success. Shuman notes that Hall & Hall has broken new ground for many landowners by offering the auction option. “A lot of the calls I’m getting are from people who say, ‘You know that might work. I’d like to try the auction process,’” he says.

Wow: Hall and Hall auctioned the historic 10,600-acre Camp Cooley Ranch in Texas for $28.5 million in August. In December, the firm auctioned Nebraska’s 40,500-acre Circle Cross Ranch in four parcels to one buyer for $11.75 million.
